There is nothing like riding a motorcycle on a freeway. The experience is enjoyable as it is relaxing. However, things can turn ugly and nerve-wracking quickly, especially when sharing the roads with other motorists.
If you suffered serious harm in similar circumstances, you may be eligible for compensation. But before you can get there, you need to know how to act when the worst happens. Here’s a look at what you should do after a motorcycle accident in Brownsville, including checking yourself for injuries, calling 911, and contacting a Brownsville motorcycle accident lawyer.
Check Yourself for Injuries
Although motorcyclists share the same rights as other motorists, they often bear the brunt of catastrophic crashes. They usually suffer devastating injuries due to the lack of protection around them. Even with helmets and other gear, motorcyclists are often at risk of severe harm.
No matter the reason, no one should have to face the consequences of a fatal crash just because someone was reckless or negligent. After a motorcycle accident in Brownsville, the first thing you ought to do is check yourself for injuries.
Always keep in mind that you will experience a sudden rush of adrenaline that may affect your judgment or sense of pain. You may not establish the severity of your injuries unless a thorough medical review is carried out. If you are injured, do not move away from the scene. Remain still and await medical evacuation.
Call 911
You may need to contact the local police department after an accident. Crashes that result in severe injuries, death, or extensive property damage must be reported. An officer will be dispatched to investigate the crash and fill out the police report.
They will also help clear the scene and coordinate rescue efforts with paramedics. Be sure to retain a copy of their report, as it may be crucial when filing a motorcycle accident claim.
Move Away from Traffic and Document the Scene
If you can, it’s crucial that you move away from traffic to a secure place. Remaining at the scene can be dangerous, especially when there are oncoming vehicles. While at it, you must document the scene. Take photos of your injuries and property damage. Be sure to capture as much information as you can. The evidence you gather may be the game-changer you need in your quest for compensation.

Exchange Information
It is also imperative that you exchange information with all the parties involved in the accident. Talk to eyewitnesses and record their accounts regarding the moments leading to the crash. Note down their names, addresses, and contact details.
They are vital in case your case goes to trial. As for the other motorists, you should record the registration plates of their vehicles, car make and model, and contact and insurance information.

Notify Your Insurance Company
You should also notify your insurance about your Brownsville motorcycle accident as soon as possible. Besides being a legal requirement that accident victims notify their insurance companies, you get to protect your rights and interests when you call them sooner.
They get the opportunity to look into your case and start the settlement process. Remember, you are likely to incur substantial financial losses, especially if you were severely injured, and the sooner you are settled, the better.
Failure to notify your insurance company may imply that you were not in an accident or your injuries were not as severe as you claim, therefore barring you from pursuing compensation.
